Barbara Camparone Salvadore, a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, beloved wife of Guido for 66 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Barbara was born on January 15, 1933, in Providence, Rhode Island. The eldest daughter of Peter and Catherine Camparone, Barbara graduated in 1950 from Mount Pleasant High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. Following graduation, she attended secretarial school and upon completion she became a legal secretary at Arcaro Law Offices, LLP. It was in Providence that she caught Guido’s eye. They married in 1958 and later moved to a home in North Providence. In 1967, they packed their kids into their Plymouth Fury station wagon for the “long journey” to East Greenwich where they moved into a home designed and fashionably decorated by Barbara. For 52 years, that house was a center of activity where Sunday dinners with extended family were filled with love and laughter.
Barbara was perpetually stylish. A gourmet cook, her dinner parties were legendary for their elegance and exquisite cuisine. She was gregarious and loved company, extending invitations to friends, friends of friends, and her children’s friends. A perfect evening would be spent gathering around a piano singing showtunes, playing charades, or floating effortlessly across a ballroom floor led by Guido. She was a world traveler, crisscrossing continents with him or her many girlfriends.
Barbara was an avid and accomplished bridge player. A Life Master, she honed her skills at the Bridge Club of Rhode Island where she cultivated enduring friendships. Family was her greatest source of pride. She taught her children to appreciate traditions. She decorated for every holiday (even St. Patrick’s Day) and instructed them how to make pasta sauce, pickle peppers, beautifully wrap packages, and fold socks. She was a loving and attentive grandmother, always the first to send a birthday card, and made her grandchildren laugh with her silly sense of humor.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Guido; her children Peter of North Kingstown, Richard (Mila) of East Greenwich, Susan (Andrew) of Cohasset, MA, Stephen (Aurora) of East Greenwich and Marisa (Larry) of North Kingstown; thirteen grandchildren, Victoria, Jared, Isabelle, Katie, Olivia, Christina, Michael, Lauren, Alexander, Samuel, Maximus, Benjamin and Evelyn; two great-grandchildren, Theodore and Leo, and her sisters Carole Sammartino of East Greenwich and Joan D’Agostino of Lincoln.
