Eugene R. Kardel, 70, of Newport, RI passed away on February 12, 2025 at Hebert Health & Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield, RI. Born in Newport, RI on June 2, 1954, he was the son of the late Eugene C. Kardel and Barbara M. (Bergin) Kardel.
He is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jean (Kardel) Bottorff. He is survived by his sister, Linda (Kardel) Anderson of Portsmouth, RI, his niece Adrienne Germain of Shasta Lake, CA, and his nephews, Brian Anderson of Newport RI and Kevin Anderson of Tiverton, RI
Eugene attended local Newport Schools and graduated from Rogers High School in 1972. He spoke fondly and proudly of his days as a member of the Rogers High School Vikings Football Team, wearing jersey number 82 as a tight end.
Eugene lived a life marked by adversity, struggling on and off with the challenges of alcohol addiction for most of his adult life. He is now at peace. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him. We will always treasure the good memories.
