Lena (Rosiak) Gates, 90, of North Providence, RI passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI with her daughters by her side.
She was born on April 25, 1934 in Providence to the late Harry and Elena (Zeminkova) Rosiak. Lena was the youngest of five children and was sister to the late Nicholas, George, Alexander and Michael Rosiak. She spent most of her working years in customer service for dairy distributors including H.P. Hood, Yankee Milk and Ocean State Dairy.
Lena was fortunate enough to have two special loves in her life. She was married to her late husband, Noel A.Gates, for 13 years before he passed away in 1974. She then spent 38 wonderful years with Arthur Marois until his death in 2017. Lena was a loving and devoted mom to three daughters: Pauline (Stephen) Ashworth of Lincoln, RI, Maureen Quinlan of Ocala, FL and the late Janet Pate Heaton. Through her own example, she taught her girls how to be strong in the moments when life seems most difficult and that they could achieve whatever they set out to accomplish. She also instilled in them a love of food, dancing, music, travel, and the importance of a good cocktail.
Being a grandmother to Nicholas Noel Buckley of Cherry Hill, NJ and Emily (Quinlan) Byrd of Holiday, FL was a role Lena cherished. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Olivia Noelle Byrd and Charlie Ann Byrd of Holiday, FL.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 9:30am-11:30am at the Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
