
Walter Henry Cook, 86 years old, of Academy Ave, passed away peacefully at home on July 17th, 2024. Born and raised in Providence, RI, he was the son of Walter H. Cook and Emily H. Monte, and the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (Tracy) Cook.
Walter graduated from Lasalle Academy in 1956 where he was a first team All-State track athlete. He continued his education at Providence College and played on the undefeated Freshman Basketball Team in 1957. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airbourne Division of the US Army, a Providence Firefighter for 20 years, and later as an Inspector for the RI Department of Transportation for an additional 26 years.
Walter was a dedicated family man, elite athlete and avid sports enthusiast who loved horse races, trips to Vegas, and daily visits to the Newport Creamery.
Walter is survived by his children: David (fiancé, Maria), Gregg (wife, Diane), and Kerrin; and his grandchildren: Krystle, Talia, Serena, and Gregg Jr. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; son, Gary; daughter, Kristen; and grandson, Daniel.
Visiting hours are Monday July 22nd from 8:30-9:30am at J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home, 925 Chalkstone Ave, Providence, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton St, Providence, RI.
