Allen Wayne Stephens, 71, of the Pawtucket Falls Nursing Center in Rhode Island, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, following a courageous 20-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born in Providence, Allen was the beloved son of the late Joyce E. (Butler) Stephens and Ackmon Wayne Stephens. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Allen served as a Medical Services Specialist at Incirlik CDI, Adana, Turkey during the 1970s. After returning home and starting his family, he began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized, a faith that remained central to his life.
Allen dedicated 25 years to his career as a computer analyst. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a man of many talents and passions. As a teenager, he taught himself to play the guitar and formed a band called The Stonemen with friends from East Providence High School. His love for music endured throughout his life; he was a three-time karaoke champion in Tampa, Florida, and continued to sing and play guitar until MS took away the use of his hands. Allen also enjoyed sailing, listening to music, watching movies, and playing video games.
He is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Burke) Stephens; his cherished children: Allen Wayne, Lori Ann, Candace Marie, Andrew Wayne, Adam Wayne, Amon Wayne, and Elizabeth Marie; and seven beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters Sheri Gemma and Wendy Mosher; aunts Gayle Johnson and Dawn Cardente; uncle Peter Butler; numerous cousins; and a niece and nephew.
A private burial will take place at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery in Exeter. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Allen’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to those he loved.
Arrangements entrusted to Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations 925 Chalkstone Avenue Providence.
