Catherine "Kit" (Costello) Beaton
July 18, 2015

Catherine "Kit" (Costello) Beaton, passed into God’s hands from the loving embrace of her family late in the evening of Saturday, July 18th. She was 69.

Daughter of the late Walter and Katherine Costello of Providence, RI, Kit married Albert Beaton in the spring of 1968. Together, they raised two children and traveled the world with the US Army for 25 years before retiring to Tampa, FL.  She was the guiding light for her wandering family.  Undefeated by breast cancer and a recent diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, Kit was struck down by the sudden onset of Acute Myeloid Leukemia while visiting RI on vacation.

As a graduate of Providence College, she never missed a chance to cheer for the Friars, and loved any opportunity to proclaim the superiority of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  With a background in biochemistry, Kit remained involved in education over the years – helping as a substitute teacher in her children’s schools, managing the continuing education programs at military installations, and even serving as the director of religious education at her Catholic church overseas. She was an enthusiastic quilter, a spoiler of dogs, and a lifelong fan of Mickey Mouse.

In addition to her husband, Kit is survived by daughter Nicole Beaton of Gardner, KS, son Albert (Chip) Beaton, of Blandon, PA, sister Carolyn Kelaghan of Warwick, RI, and seven grandchildren: Piper, Rowan, Fiona, Kira, Mercedes, Bryce, and Kieran.

The family is respecting Kit’s preference not to stand on ceremony, so there will not be a visitation or wake.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius Church, Eaton Street, Providence on Thursday, July 23 at 9am and subsequent interment at the RI Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Joan DeCotis Foundation, 95 Crosswynds Drive, Saunderstown, RI 02874
