Mrs. Martina (Gillis) Castanho
August 14, 2017

Mrs. Martina (Gillis) Castanho, 89, of Providence, passed into our Lord's arms at her home on August 14, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Manuel J. "Square" Castanho.

She had just celebrated her 89th birthday, with her children by her side, with a lobster dinner and her favorite dessert, Boston creme pie.

She was born in Providence on July 21, 1928 and worked for the State of Rhode Island for many years. She liked to travel, swim, and go out to dinner and theater with friends especially with her best friend, Ann Flynn. One of Martina's greatest joys was spending time with her family. She was the loving grandmother of Elise Chapdelaine, Tiffany Castanho, Michele Chapdelaine, David Castanho II, Daniel Fortunato and Michaela Fortunato.

She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her children: Joan and her husband Harold Chapdelaine of Vineyard Haven, MA, Martina and her husband Donald Fortunato of East Lyme, CT, David of Westerly, RI, and Stephen and his companion Christina Cook of Edgartown, MA. She also leaves her brother Joseph Gillis, Sr. and his wife Dorothy of Narragansett, RI and many nieces and nephews.
