Paul Joseph Austin

Paul Joseph Austin, 76, of 3 Rollingwood Drive, Lincoln, RI, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 26, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Jean M. (Masiello) Austin.

He is survived by three children, Sean M. Austin of Laytonsville, MD, Timothy P. Austin and his wife Michele Cardillo-Austin of Johnston, RI, Colin J. Austin of Melbourne, FL and four grandchildren Marlie, Morgan, Gillian and Sara.

Born in Pittsfield, MA, son of Joseph and Catherine Austin.   He was a graduate of Providence College in 1963.  His career began as a high school teacher in Woonsocket, RI followed by a long career in financial management and precious metal refining. He was most recently employed as an inside sales/customer service representative at Merrill Edge.

Paul had numerous community involvements that included founder and past President of the Jaycee Chapter in Goshen, NY, Parks and Recreation board member of the town of Lincoln, past President and team manager of the Upper Valley Little League, past President of the Providence Jewelers Club, past President of the Parent’s Guild at Our Lady of Providence High School and LaSalle Academy, mentor at the San Miguel School in Providence, and CCD instructor at St. Jude’s Church in Lincoln, RI.

He was an avid golfer and was a long time member of Wannamoisett and Metacomet Country Clubs.  Paul loved Providence College, was a Member of the Mal Brown Club and had the honor of receiving the Mal Brown Award on March 5, 2013.  He loved and supported PC hockey and basketball.

Calling hours will be held at Skeffington Funeral Home, 925 Chalkstone Ave., Providence, RI from 4 to 7 pm on Friday March 3rd. A celebration of his life will be held on March 4th at 10 am St. Jude’s Church, 301 Front St, Lincoln, RI.
